As a leukemia patient I have found two ways to help my ailing immune system fight the challenges of leukemia. The first is through the healing power of music and the second has been fundraising to help fellow leukemia patients here in Nova Scotia.

In August 2004 I was fortunate in getting four very talented musicians to donate their time in recording a great blues CD. The costs of producing this CD were either covered by donations of time or services and so 100% of the sale price of each CD went to the QEII Foundation, the fundraising arm of the QEII Hospital.

In December 2005 the band got together again for a second concert at which time I presented a check for $20,000 to the QEII Foundation.

Derek's passion for music became the major part of his fundraising to help hematology patients at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. He is proud to say that 100% of the proceeds of CD sales is going towards helping those with financial challenges while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Derek Caine: Motivator

Derek is proud to announce his services as a motivational and inspirational speaker. Derek is an entrepreneur with over 40 years of successful business experience. He gives emotional and stirring presentations as he talks not only about his mantra for success in business, but also his fight back from his leukemia diagnosis, and how he turned that from a sentence of death into a sentence of life.

To date, The Little Derek Leukemia Fund has raised over $200,000 to help all those who face little challenges not funded by Government or other assistance agencies. There is enough stress in facing the daunting challenge of cancer treatments without adding other smaller issues that the fund can take of. There are no set guidelines. If the social workers on the floor see a need that the fund can address, then it happens immediately with no red tape of any kind.

Derek himself lives with leukemia, and after six months of treatments on two separate occasions fully understands the difficulties of functioning in a normal way.

Derek is committed to raising awareness of leukemia, and thanks you in advance for your support.
